‘Kannel & Cymbały. Traditional Instruments for the 100th Anniversary of Independence. Poland – Estonia’ – instrumental exchange and special concert

The autumn edition of the Mazurkas of the World Festival will feature a finale to the Polish-Estonian programme ‘Kannel & Cymbały. Traditional Instruments for the 100th Anniversary of Independence’ held this year.

The programme, which was inaugurated in July, will culminate in an exchange of kannel and cymbały, traditional Estonian and Polish instruments, by and between government officials from Poland and Estonia. The ceremony will take place during the autumn edition of the Mazurkas of the World Festival 2018 at Warszawski Dom Technika NOT in Warsaw on 24 November 2018 (Saturday) at 7 pm. The Polish instrument will be handed over to the Estonian delegation by the Government Plenipotentiary for the Centenary Celebrations of the Restoration of Polish Sovereignty. The ceremony will be followed by a concert featuring Polish and Estonian participants of the project, including Marek Kruczek, Fryderyk Kruczek, Jerzy Panek, Andrzej Baran, Szymon Tadla (cymbały), Janusz Prusinowski (violin), Maarja Sarv, Ann Maria Piho, Katariina Tirmaaste, Eva Valjaots (kannel) and a youth ensemble from Estonia directed by Kadri Lepasson and Leanne Barbo. The evening will be concluded by a Dancing Night.

The musicians from Estonia will appear as special guests of this year’s autumn edition of the Mazurkas of the World Festival. The Polish-Estonian seminar ‘Kannel versus Cymbały’ will take place at the Culture Promotion Centre (Centrum Promocji Kultury) on 23 November, while the Festival’s workshop part held on the following day will feature a series of workshops dedicated to Estonian dances, kannel playing techniques, cymbały playing techniques and Rzeszowszczyzna regional dances (performed to the accompaniment of the cymbały).
